About Băile Acâș
Băile Acâș is a small thermal complex on the Western Plain, with two open-air pools, treatment tubs, a hotel and wooden cabins. The single most useful thing to know before you drive out: the operator publishes no entry price and no opening hours, anywhere. Everything you read online about the schedule here almost certainly belongs to a different pool.
The confusion has a name. Ștrand Termal Mihăieni sits about 4 km away, inside the same commune of Acâș, and it does publish prices, hours, a water analysis and a list of contraindications. Its schedule, 08:00 to 20:00 daily, gets copied onto pages about Acâș routinely. This page used to do it too.
The operator does run a website, baileacas.unio.ro, and it is the only source for the water, the indications and the facilities. It also carries a 2013 copyright notice, a noindex tag that keeps it out of Google, an empty contact page and a price list quoted at four lei to the euro. Treat what follows accordingly.
Bicarbonate, not saline
- The analysis published by the operator gives 1,207.8 mg/l bicarbonate against 106.4 mg/l chloride and 506.7 mg/l sodium, adding up to roughly 1.85 g/l. That is a weakly mineralised sodium bicarbonate water.
- This page described the water as chloride-sodium with iodine and bromine until now. The operator's own table shows bicarbonate outweighing chloride about eleven to one, and lists neither iodine nor bromine.
- The figure of 51 °C, which this page carried for years, appears in no source at all. Not the operator, not the local press, not the tourism portals. It circulated because search engines were indexing our own page.
- What the operator does publish is 75 °C at 1,800 m. No institution has confirmed it, and the Satu Mare press has written about Acâș since 2013 without ever printing a temperature. The water in the pools has no published temperature at all.
A long list, unsigned
- The operator claims inflammatory, degenerative and abarticular rheumatic conditions, post-traumatic conditions, peripheral and central neurological conditions, gynaecological conditions and metabolic disorders.
- The same list ends with chronic gastritis, duodenal ulcer, non-calculous gallbladder disease and operated stomach or liver, all of which imply drinking the water. No authorisation, no microbiological analysis and no medical opinion supporting internal use has ever been published for Acâș.
- No doctor signs the list and no institute is cited. For comparison, the pool 4 km away states plainly that its water is of therapeutic interest for external use, and stops there.
- Dermatological conditions are not claimed here by anyone, which is worth saying because the phrase attaches itself to almost every thermal resort in the country without a source.

- Băile Acâș publishes no contraindications. Not on the site, not anywhere else.
- That matters more here than it would elsewhere, precisely because the operator claims internal cure and central neurological indications. Those are the two areas where a missing warning does the most damage.
- Mihăieni, in the same commune, publishes twelve, from acute illness and infectious disease through pregnancy, epilepsy, cardiovascular disease, stroke, thrombophlebitis, ovarian cyst and uterine fibroma. If you need a reference list for the region, that is the one that exists.
- Ask your own doctor before a cure here, and do not borrow a contraindication list from another resort. The mineral profile differs from one spring to the next.
Two pools, tubs, and a caravan area
- The operator lists two open-air pools plus indoor tubs filled with thermal water for individual treatments. A visitor counted three usable pools in September 2023.
- Accommodation on site: a three-star hotel with twin rooms and one apartment, a Finnish sauna, and wooden cabins. Local press counted twelve hotel rooms and twenty cabins in 2020. Tourism portals repeat a figure of 162 beds that the operator does not confirm.
- There is a fifty-seat restaurant, a children's play area, picnic space and room to pitch tents.
- The only independent review published in the past five years, on Tripadvisor in September 2023, rates the place 2 out of 5 and describes greasy and dangerously slippery pool floors, water full of suspended matter, non-compliant electrical hook-ups in the caravan area, and prices charged on the spot without a receipt and different from the posted list. It is one review, from one visitor, but it is also the only recent independent account that exists.
- Camping is confirmed by the operator and by that same review. If you arrive with a caravan, check the hook-up yourself before you plug in.
Hours and price: ring first
- Neither the entry price nor the opening hours are published by the operator or by anyone else. We checked the official site, the Facebook page, the business directories, Tripadvisor and the travel portals.
- Business directories show this place as open 24 hours, seven days a week. That is an auto-generated entry, not information from the operator. A thermal pool does not run around the clock.
- The season is not published either. The claim that Acâș stays open in winter belongs to Mihăieni, where the year-round operation is documented.
- Two numbers appear on the official site: 0746 129 349 and 0732 920 920. Ring before you set out, and ask for the price, the hours and whether the tubs are running.
The only prices are from 2013
- The operator publishes accommodation rates: 120 lei a night for a hotel room, 60 lei for a two-bed cabin, 175 lei for a seven-bed one, and 80 to 140 lei for the villa rooms.
- Those figures come with euro equivalents calculated at four lei to the euro, which dates them to roughly 2013. Do not plan a budget around them.
- The 20 to 25 lei entry fee this page used to quote had no source behind it. It has been removed rather than updated.
- For a sense of the local market, Mihăieni charges 40 lei a day for adults, 35 for pensioners and 20 for children aged 7 to 14, updated in July 2026.
Getting there, and what is around
- Acâș sits on DN 19A, at Str. Principală 2. Sources disagree on the distance to Satu Mare: commune data says 38 km, the local press and the portals say around 30. Either way it is under an hour.
- The county road to Mihăieni, DJ 195B, was a genuine problem for years. In 2016 the commune sent the prefect a petition with 2,747 signatures asking for it to be rebuilt. The Mihăieni to Acâș section, nearly 4.8 km, was completed by 2018 at a cost of 7,875,251 lei. That complaint is settled.
- The reformed church in Acâș is 800 m away and is a listed monument, unusual for carrying a crescent. There are wineries at Beltiug about 4.5 km off, plus Ardud fortress and Teghea monastery.
- The operator tells a story about the water being appreciated by Empress Maria Theresa. No archive, museum or institution confirms it. What is documented is that most of the county's boreholes were sunk in the 1970s, and that three were drilled at Acâș.
- Read the four sentences at the top of this page again before you drive out. This is a place worth a visit if you know what you are getting, and a wasted afternoon if you turn up expecting a modern spa.
