About Băile Boghiș
A spa resort in the village of Boghiș, Sălaj County, built around wells of thermal mineral water. It reopened at the end of May 2026 and was full through the July and August heatwave. At the gate, everything works: you pay, you get a wristband, you swim.
What no travel page mentions: the owning company, BAI BOGHIS S.R.L. of Zalău, tax code 32255126, has been in bankruptcy since 15 April 2022, by Civil Ruling no. 607 of the Sălaj Tribunal, case 135/84/2019, after insolvency proceedings opened in 2019. The entire resort is being sold off by the court-appointed liquidator, INSOLV 2007 SPRL, as a single functional unit. The auction notice sits on the front page of the resort’s own website, as a banner, in a file uploaded in July 2026.
So neither description you will find online is right. It is not a closed resort in bankruptcy, and it is not the spa resort in continuous development that the Boghiș town hall site still advertises with text unchanged since 2022. It is a resort that trades normally while the asset underneath it is on sale at a falling price, with auction rounds scheduled on 21 August and 4 September 2026, in the middle of the season.
What is on sale, and for how much
- The price keeps falling: 3,422,263 euro in December 2023, then 3,080,036.70 euro in February 2025, and 2,395,584.10 euro plus VAT in 2026. Roughly 30% off in two and a half years, with no buyer.
- It goes as one package: 83,175 sqm of land, two P+4 hotels of 2,210 sqm each, a P+1 apartment block, the Flori de Tei cabins in pavilions A and B, a covered pool with annexes of 780 sqm, an 80-seat restaurant, terraces, pools K1 to K4 totalling 3,156 sqm, 4,976 sqm of paths, a transformer station, the wells and the installations.
- The inventory lists, in so many words, building and installation repairs and modernisations that were never finished or signed off.

What the wells bring up
- The operator and Boghiș town hall use identical wording: wells with thermal mineral water, sodium bicarbonate and iodide, at 42 °C. The hydrogeological work cited dates from 1961–1963, by IPGG Bucharest.
- Descriptions mentioning sulphurous water with methane at around 46 °C, this page included until now, were wrong. No source mentions sulphur or methane.
- No lab analysis bulletin is published. The official FAQ also claims the water contains paraffin, which makes no chemical sense for a mineral water and looks like a mix-up with paraffin wrap procedures.
Listed indications
- The operator publishes a long list attributed to the Health Ministry through INRMFB: degenerative, inflammatory, abarticular and post-traumatic rheumatic conditions, peripheral nervous system disorders, nutrition and metabolic diseases, plus skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema and seborrhoeic dermatitis.
- Local press adds gynaecological conditions to that list. The indication appears neither on the operator’s list nor on the town hall’s, so treat it as unsourced.
- There is no doctor on site named in any public source, and no treatment base is advertised. What is sold here is bathing, not a supervised cure.
The pools, and what is not confirmed about them
- Four outdoor pools with depths from 60 cm to 2 m, plus one indoor pool. Water in the pools sits between 29 and 34 °C, varying by pool and by season, since it arrives at 42 °C and cools on the way.
- The auction inventory counts the same basins as K1 to K4, 3,156 sqm of water surface in total, and separately a covered pool with annexes of 780 sqm.
- There is no public confirmation for 2026 that all four outdoor pools and the indoor one are in service. The precedent is documented: at the 2023 reopening, also carried out while the company was in bankruptcy, with 16 to 17 seasonal staff, the large pool was out of use because of cracks.
- Sun loungers cost 20 lei a day and are handed out at the pool reception.
- Capacity figures do not agree. The official site and the town hall both say 128 places; local press, quoting resort representatives, says 35 hotel rooms for a maximum of 104 people plus 28 bungalows. The auction file describes two P+4 hotels and several pavilions, so the physical capacity is well above 128 and only part of it is likely in use.
Season & hours
- The resort reopened at the end of May 2026. The operator’s historical season runs 1 June to 1 September. The address is Boghiș no. 5, Boghiș village, Sălaj County, off DJ 191 and DJ 191D.
- Daily opening hours are not published by the operator. The 08:00–20:00 that shows up in search results comes from aggregators, not from the resort, so do not plan a late arrival around it.
- Lodging rates on the official site are for a minimum of two nights and include breakfast, parking and free pool entry for two people.
- Sodexo, Edenred, Up and Chèque Vacances vouchers are accepted. Small dogs are allowed. There is no camping area.
2026 prices
- Pool entry in 2026: adults 40 lei Monday to Friday and 50 lei at weekends; children 30 lei on weekdays and 35 lei at weekends. That is 5 lei more than in 2025.
- The official website still shows a grid headed SEASON: 01.06 – 01.09 – 2024, with 35 and 45 lei for adults and 25 and 30 lei for children. Two years behind reality. Budget from that page and you pay 5 lei more per person at the gate than you expected.
- Lodging, from the site: standard cabins 315 lei a night, modern cabins 355 lei, luxury apartments 455 lei, all for two people.
- Nearby beds if the resort is full: Șimleu Silvaniei is 15 km away, Zalău 45 km, Cluj-Napoca 118 km.
Good to know
- The practical risk: if the complex is knocked down on 21 August or 4 September 2026, the 2027 season and any long-term booking become uncertain. Vouchers and prepayments go to a company under liquidation, and a new owner takes on no obligation to honour them.
- The fact that the auction notice was still on the front page in August, with two rounds left on the calendar, tells you the package had not been sold.
- Who is owed money: the bankruptcy was requested by Construcții Erbașu SA over an unpaid claim of 6.6 million lei for the 2013 modernisation works. Elena Udrea, holder of 50% of the company and 375,000 euro invested, is among those seeking their money back; she assigned her claim in 2018 and later tried to recover it in court without success.
- The last reported year before bankruptcy was 2021: turnover 1.88 million lei, a loss over 200,000 lei, and debts of 13.6 million lei.
- For a short stay in high summer none of this changes anything at the gate. For a week booked in advance, or for a treatment stay planned around next season, it is the first thing to weigh.
