About Ștrand Termal Mihăieni
Mihăieni is the best-documented thermal pool in Satu Mare County, and that is not a compliment about the swimming. The operator publishes a full water analysis with the drilling interval, a list of indications restricted to external cure, and twelve contraindications with bathing durations. Almost no bathing facility in Romania publishes the third of those.
Which makes the errors this page carried harder to excuse. We described the water as sulphurous. The operator's own analysis reports hydrogen sulphide at zero and sulphates at 6 mg/l. We priced entry at 20 to 25 lei; it is 40. We filed the place under Maramureș; it is in Satu Mare County, and not even in the Oaș region that some portals assign it to.
One thing to plan around: since spring 2026 a second pool is being rebuilt and roofed over, so that part of the site is shut while the work runs. The operator has announced 15 December 2026 for the opening. The rest of the pool works normally.
Water
Saline, and not sulphurous
- Total mineralisation 7,903 mg/l, drawn from a drilling interval of 1,116.3 to 1,502.5 m, pH 7.2. Sodium and chloride alone account for 6,185 of those milligrams, so this is a chloride-sodium water with a bicarbonate component of 1,159 mg/l.
- Hydrogen sulphide reads zero and sulphates 6 mg/l. The water is not sulphurous, and this page said it was. The error traces to a newspaper sentence describing the county's waters in general as weakly sulphurous, plus a 2017 visitor writing that he could smell sulphur.
- The analysis also gives ammonium at 2 mg/l, iron at 1 mg/l, silicic acid at 80 mg/l and total hardness of 15.34 German degrees. Fluoride, bromide and iodide were not determined.
- The local press reports 80 °C at 1,400 m, in a text the same paper ran twice, four years apart. The 42 to 48 °C figure we used to publish matches nothing at all. The operator gives no pool temperature, only a rule about baths at 40 °C and above, which tells you at least one pool reaches it.
Medical
External cure only
- The operator's formal wording: the water is of therapeutic interest for external cure and can be used in hydrotherapy and hydrokinetotherapy for chronic degenerative rheumatic conditions, chronic abarticular rheumatic conditions, chronic post-traumatic conditions of the locomotor system and chronic peripheral neurological conditions.
- There is no internal cure here. No drinking, no inhalations, no irrigations. The operator says external, and only external.
- A second, looser list posted alongside it adds pre-arthritic states, spondylosis, fractures, sprains, dislocations, paralysis and gynaecological conditions outside acute flare-ups. That one is the operator's popular phrasing, not the balneological opinion, and is worth reading as such.
- Dermatological conditions appear nowhere on the operator's site. The claim comes from a tourism portal page unchanged since November 2014, which wrote that the water is good for rheumatic conditions, bones and skin. That sentence became our data field.
Contraindications
Twelve, published on site
- The acute phase of any illness. Infectious and venereal diseases. Cancer, and repeated or heavy bleeding. Pregnancy and breastfeeding.
- Psychiatric conditions and epilepsy. Cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure. States following a stroke. Acute myocardial infarction. Thrombophlebitis. Ovarian cyst. Uterine fibroma.
- No bathing under the influence of alcohol, narcotics or medication with similar effects.
- The operator also sets the dosage, which almost nobody does: at 40 °C and above, 15 to 20 minutes per bath, at least 30 minutes between baths, following your doctor's advice, and a cooler shower after each hot bath. A 2017 visitor confirms the 20-minute limit was posted on site.
On site
Five pools, one under a retractable roof
- Five pools: one covered, four open-air, with both thermal and cold water. The covered one has a retractable roof that opens on warm days and closes in winter, which is what makes year-round bathing work here.
- Dimensions, depths and which pool holds thermal versus cold water are not published. Neither is the temperature of any individual pool.
- Around the pools: a slide, a children's park, a foot-tennis court, a restaurant with a pie shop and a grill area, an events hall, a beach shop, covered terraces, massage and sauna, private car parks and grassed sunbathing areas.
- Accommodation comes in four forms. Hotel rooms at two and three stars, with direct access from reception to the indoor thermal pool. A four-person apartment outside the pool grounds. An eight-room agro-tourism guesthouse with a shared kitchen, a games room and a private courtyard. Wooden cabins with their own terrace, inside and outside the grounds.
- A description circulating in search results mentions six pools, a semi-olympic one at 1.8 m and two children's pools at 30 and 60 cm. It belongs to some other site. Older sources say three pools, on ten hectares, with a five-hectare fishing lake, none of which the operator confirms.

Every day, all year
- Daily 08:00 to 20:00, every day of the week. The operator repeats it in the header of every page and states it again on the rates page.
- The pool runs the whole year, which is unusual in this part of the country and is the reason it gets recommended over neighbouring pools in winter.
- The second covered pool is under construction through 2026, announced for 15 December. That area is closed meanwhile. If the covered pool is your reason for coming in winter, ring first.

Rates
40 lei, updated July 2026
- Adults 40 lei a day, pensioners 35, children aged 7 to 14 pay 20. Sauna 10 lei per 15 minutes. Massage is offered without a published price.
- The rates page also still shows an older line reading 5 lei for 15 minutes with a minimum of three people. It is leftover text. The more recent page gives 10 lei.
- A season ticket costs 250 lei for adults and 200 for pensioners, though the validity period is not stated anywhere. Children under 7 have no published rate.
- Rooms run from 160 to 260 lei a night depending on beds and day of the week, the apartment 350, the guesthouse room 300, cabins 160 to 170. All include entry tickets, one per bed. Camping costs 40 lei a night for a tent or car, plus 35 for electricity, and is the only category that does not include entry.
- Prices of 15 lei for adults and 5 for children still circulate on a portal fiche that has not been updated in years. Ignore them.
Before you go
Getting there, and the pool next door
- The address is Mihăieni village no. 1/A, Acâș commune, Satu Mare County. From Satu Mare the documented route runs about 40 km on DN 19A and E81, then 4 km right onto DJ 195B, so roughly 44 km by road. A figure of 30 km circulates but appears to be the straight-line distance.
- DJ 195B has been rebuilt. The county council's Mihăieni to Acâș section is part of a 34 km programme, and a 12.5 km stretch further along was finished with 30.2 million lei of national funding, explicitly to open up the route to the thermal pools here. A visitor in 2017 already found the last 4 km freshly asphalted, without road markings.
- Băile Acâș lies 3.5 to 4 km away, in the same commune, and the two are constantly confused. Acâș draws its water from 1,800 m, publishes no price, no schedule and no contraindications, and its site has not been updated since 2013. A 2017 traveller set out for Acâș and ended up here because locals redirected him.
- Three figures belong to Acâș and turn up on pages about Mihăieni: water from 1,800 m, use going back centuries, and two to three thousand visitors on a summer weekend. None of them describe this place.
- Nobody publishes the operating company, the water management permit, the mining licence or the flow rate. The water analysis carries no laboratory name and no date. For a pool that does the documentation better than anyone else in the county, those are conspicuous gaps.
