About Băile Moneasa
A spa town of national interest in the Codru-Moma Mountains, Arad County, with 1,500 beds in summer and 500 in winter. The town hall counted about 100,000 visitors in 2025 from hotel tax receipts, 40% more than in 2024. And yet on 8 May 2026 the owners of the outdoor pool complex announced they had no way to open it for the summer.
Moneasa town hall, under mayor Doru Miron, leased the whole leisure base for one year through a company subordinated to the local council, at a rent of 50,000 euro. The announced opening date was 1 June 2026, with 8 seasonal staff. The pools are, in the mayor’s own words, the resort’s only summer attraction, which is why public money went in. The contract runs for a single year, so the 2027 season depends on an agreement nobody has signed yet.
Then, on 28 July 2026, the managing company was fined 40,000 lei by the Criș Basin Water Administration, after an anonymous complaint to the Environment Ministry: the pools were running without a water management permit. The mayor admitted publicly that he had not known such a permit was needed. No source reports any suspension of activity — the pools stayed open through it.
Operator & contacts
- The name of the municipal company now running the pools is published by nobody — not the town hall, not the press. The leasing decision of the local council is not online either; the Local Council Decisions section of the town hall site only has categories up to 2019.
- The previous operator was AQUA STRAND MONEASA SRL, tax code 48054951, set up in 2023, with a 2024 turnover of 233,730 lei. The 50,000 euro annual rent the town hall now pays is larger than the entire turnover that operator reported.
- The official site strandmoneasa.ro is dead: it returns a 403 with an empty body, and it was already suspended back in July 2021. The working channels are the phone, 0728 276 932, and the Strand Moneasa Facebook page.

- Context for that figure: as of 3 July 2026 there were no tickets at all with private operators, the tender having been extended because of appeals.
Two different waters, and why it matters
- The outdoor complex has 3 pools, with depths between 80 cm and 1.90 m, fed with thermomineral water that leaves the spring at 31 °C. In the pools it holds steady between 28 and 30 °C and is not heated.
- The town hall’s own documents describe them as open-air basins for cold baths with mineral water. Set your expectations accordingly: on a cool day in June or September, 28 °C outdoors feels a good deal cooler than the number suggests.
- Declared capacity is 2,000 visitors; at peak the pools take around 1,500 people a day. There is no covered alternative inside the complex if the weather turns.
- The second cure factor is elsewhere. The treatment base at Hotel Codru Moma has an indoor pool of 50 sqm, 1.5–1.7 m deep, with mesothermal water heated to 31–33 °C, used for hydrokinetotherapy under supervision.
- Do not merge the two. The outdoor pools are leisure bathing in unheated mineral water; the hotel pool is a heated medical facility with its own access rules. Descriptions that quote one temperature for the whole resort are mixing them up.
Opening hours
- The 2026 season was announced to start on 1 June and runs for roughly three months, the usual summer window here.
- Daily opening hours are published by nobody — not the operator, not the town hall, not the county. Any timetable you find in an aggregator has no traceable source. Call 0728 276 932 the day before you drive out.
- No closing date for the 2026 season has been announced either.
- The treatment base at Hotel Codru Moma works Monday to Friday, 8:00–16:00, according to the reimbursement terms published for referral tickets.

- There is no 2026 price list for the pools, anywhere. The mayor said the town would keep all prices, lodging included, at the level of previous years, but no figures were put out to back that up.
- The only verifiable reference is old: 60 lei per adult and 30 lei per child, per day, in July 2021. Treat it as history rather than as a 2026 rate.
- At Hotel Parc Moneasa, procedures are billed separately by a different firm, SC Terapeutica SA: 100 lei for the consultation, 30–80 lei per procedure.
- On a family doctor referral at Codru Moma, the health insurance house covers an initial consultation, a check-up and 4 procedures a day for 10 days. On a pension house ticket it is 3 procedures a day for 12 days.

Principală 118, owned by TBRCM, is the serious address here: 100 rooms plus 2 apartments, a 130-seat restaurant, the indoor pool, and a treatment base with its own balneology doctor, TECAR, magnetotherapy, high-intensity laser, electrotherapy and kinetotherapy. - Hotel Parc Moneasa is run by SC Hospitality Moneasa SRL, phone 0730 222 560. In August 2026 its website was still showing packages for the period 01–30 June 2025 — rates over a year out of date, so confirm everything by phone.
- Inside the pool complex there are the Aqua Ștrand bungalows, 35 beds, which accept pets. It is the only lodging on site.
- The lease is for one year. The stated plan for 2027 is a partnership with the owners plus European funding, to turn the site into a year-round spa centre. Until something is signed, a booking for next summer rests on an intention.
- The contrast worth holding on to: a resort of national interest, roughly 100,000 visitors in 2025, 1,500 beds in summer — and a leisure base that still could not pay for itself.
