About Buziaș
Buziaș, in Timiș County, is the oldest spa resort in Banat and the only nationally designated resort in western Romania with a cardiovascular therapeutic profile. One correction first: the water here is not thermal. It is carbonated mineral water, naturally cold at the source (13 °C in the 120 m borehole), and the treatment base heats it for tub baths.
The carbonated mineral water and carbon dioxide deposits were rediscovered between 1796 and 1805, the first organised spa season was held in 1811 and by 1819 the settlement was officially a resort. What sets it apart today is the roughly 20-hectare spa park, a listed heritage ensemble, and the wooden colonnade built in 1875 in neo-Byzantine style, a covered walkway of over 500 metres, considered the longest structure of its kind in Europe.

- Train station in town, on the Timișoara to Lugoj line, about 2.5 km from the hotel complex.

Cure factors
- Carbonated, bicarbonate, chloride, sodium, calcium and magnesium hypotonic mineral waters, mineralisation up to 6.6 g/l.
- Natural CO2 emanations (mofette) and a sedative bioclimate are the declared secondary cure factors.
- Cold at the source, heated for the treatment procedures. Not thermal water.
Who it suits
- Balneal treatment stays booked in advance, with a medical consultation on arrival.
- Pensioners with a state-subsidised CNPP treatment ticket at Hotel Silvana.
- Walks in the restored park and colonnade, which are freely accessible year-round.
- Not suitable if you are looking for an open-air bathing complex.
The water and the springs
- 13 °C at the wellhead of the 120 m borehole; the historic open-air pool reached 18-22 °C when it still worked.
- Local press also notes a high iron content, which gives the water its reddish tint.
- Of the eight springs documented in 1871 (three for drinking, five for baths), only two were still working in 2015: Moș Bîzieș and the one next to the alley of the poets.
- The Apemin Buziaș bottling plant has closed; the mayor described it in 2026 as derelict.
Mofette, air and the park
- The mofette, natural CO2 emanations used for their vasodilator effect, is listed by TBRCM and by the operator as a natural cure factor of the resort.
- It does not, however, appear in the list of procedures the operator publishes for the Balneal Medical Centre, so check by phone before you count on it.
- The operator does list terrain cure along the covered colonnade and negative ionisation walks in the park as procedures in their own right.
Balneal Medical Centre
Attached to Hotel Parc and run by Tratament Balnear Buziaș S.A., which also operates the Phoenix and Timiș hotels.
- Hydrotherapy with mineral water in individual tubs, galvanic baths, herbal baths.
- Electrotherapy, magnetotherapy, thermotherapy, aerosols.
- Kinetotherapy, massage and an artificial salt room.
- A SPA centre open since April 2022, with an indoor semi-Olympic pool, jacuzzi and sauna. The pool is heated, but the operator does not declare it as mineral water.
Hotel Silvana and CNPP tickets
- Hotel Silvana, on Str. Principală no. 9, is a TBRCM branch with 200 places (145 rated three stars, 55 rated two stars). It is a different operator from Hotel Parc and Hotel Phoenix.
- State-subsidised CNPP treatment tickets run in 15 series between 27 April and around 21 December 2026, with the last entries on 5 and 6 December.
- In winter and early spring there are no CNPP series here.
Therapeutic profile, per TBRCM and the operator: cardiovascular conditions, degenerative and abarticular rheumatic conditions, post-traumatic conditions, peripheral and central neurological conditions, plus associated respiratory, gynaecological and metabolic conditions. Procedures are prescribed by the resort doctor after a consultation.
Getting there and around
Buziaș sits about 35-40 km south-east of Timișoara on a county road, under an hour by car. The town has its own station on the Timișoara to Lugoj railway line, roughly 2.5 km from the hotel complex. The spa park and the colonnade are open to everyone, at any time, with no ticket.
The colonnade was restored between 2016 and 2019: 533 linear metres, over 1.1 million euro from the local and county budgets. The park was rebuilt through a 2014-2020 regional programme, with works finished in 2023 at around 4.8 million euro, covering 18,000 sqm of resurfaced alleys, fountains, lighting, street furniture and a playground.

What is true and what is not
- The historic mineral-water lido, opened in 1874 and the first of its kind in Europe, is not working. The mayor stated in 2026 that it had operated until 2016; a private tenant reopened it briefly in 2019. In November 2025 the owner put it up for sale, with an auction on 15 December 2025 starting at 400,000 euro for roughly 3,300 sqm in the dendrological park. Do not travel here for open-air bathing.
- The resort changed hands in March 2026: Eagle Properties of Sibiu took over 91.87% of Tratament Balnear Buziaș S.A. for 10.92 million lei. In practice, prices, schedules and commercial names may change during 2026 and 2027.
- 2026 prices exist but are not readable. The operator published three price lists in December 2025 (procedures, lab tests and SPA, plus high-season and low-season packages), all as scanned PDFs with no extractable text. Figures have to be requested by phone at 0256 321 060.
- No opening hours are published by the operator. The park and colonnade are freely accessible at all times; the Balneal Medical Centre and the SPA work by appointment only.
- The operator sets its own season: 1 June to 31 October is high season, 1 January to 31 May and 1 November to 31 December are low season.
- The 11.95 million euro aquapark announced by the town hall is a project, not a facility. Do not plan a trip around it.
- Contraindications are not published by the operator. For decompensated cardiac conditions or acute flare-ups, the decision belongs to the resort doctor at the arrival consultation.
