We cannot confirm this strand exists
This page used to describe a thermal strand at Sălacea with geothermal water at 35 to 39 °C, an entry ticket of 30 to 40 lei and a season from May to September. We went looking for the source of those figures and could not find one. Not a single one.
Worse than that, the only place on the open web that describes a thermal strand at Sălacea is this page. Search engines index it and then feed it back as if it were a finding. That is how a made-up number becomes a fact, and we have been on the wrong end of it before, with a borehole temperature at Acâș that turned out to exist nowhere except in our own copy.
So we have taken the numbers down rather than dress them up. What follows is what we actually checked and what we actually know.
Three places that would have known
- The official website of Sălacea commune lists the school, the medical dispensary, the veterinary office, the sports hall and the Komáromi-Otomani manor. It does not mention a thermal strand, thermal pools or a thermal borehole anywhere.
- A July 2026 county press roundup of where to go swimming near Oradea lists Ioșia, Apollo-Felix, Aqua Park President, Venus Waterland and Nymphaea, with prices for each. Sălacea does not appear in it.
- The Hungarian-language encyclopaedia entry for Szalacs, the village's own name, describes the commune without any reference to a bath, a strand or thermal water.
- Searches in Romanian and in Hungarian returned our own page and nothing else. When the only citation for a claim is yourself, the claim is not sourced.
The commune itself
- Sălacea, Szalacs in Hungarian, is a commune in the northern part of Bihor County, on the border with Satu Mare County, about 20 km from Valea lui Mihai.
- It had 2,271 inhabitants at the December 2021 census, 2,249 of them Hungarian.
- The commune hall is at Sălacea no. 47, phone 0259 463 014, email primaria.salacea@gmail.com, open Monday to Friday 08:00 to 16:00. That is the number to call if you have first-hand knowledge of a bath here.
- Sălacea sits inside the densest thermal belt in Romania. That is what makes a thermal borehole here plausible, and plausible is not the same as documented.
Strands within half an hour that we have checked
- Ștrandul termal Săcueni is the closest confirmed one, roughly 15 km south, with thermal pools around 33 to 37 °C.
- Ștrandul termal Tășnad is about 35 km north, in Satu Mare County: 45 lei for adults, open 08:00 to 22:00 in summer, water at 70 °C at the surface and a winter pavilion that works off-season.
- Băile Acâș is roughly 40 km north-east, rewritten from source in August 2026 after we found that the 51 °C we used to publish for it existed nowhere but on our own page.
- Oradea, with Nymphaea and the Felix cluster, is about 50 km south-west and has the widest choice in the country.
If you know better, tell us
- If a thermal bath does operate at Sălacea, we would rather publish it properly than leave this notice up. What we need is something checkable: an operator, a phone number, a price list, a photograph with a date.
- Until then this page carries no water temperature, no price and no schedule, because publishing an invented figure on a page people use to plan a trip is worse than publishing nothing.
- The same audit is running across the rest of the site. Where we find a number with no source behind it, it comes off, and the page says so.
