About Vatra Dornei
A spa resort in Suceava County, known as such since the 19th century, at around 800 m altitude in an intramontane basin where the Bistrița Aurie and the Dorna meet. It is one of the few Romanian resorts that works both as a cure destination and as a winter-sports destination.
One thing to settle from the start: the mineral waters here are cold and carbonated, not thermal. Nobody bathes outdoors in a mineral pool at Vatra Dornei. The resort symbol is the Spa Casino, opened on 10 July 1899 to a design by the Viennese architect Peter von Brang, in an eclectic style with German neo-Renaissance influences. Restored by the Suceava and Rădăuți Archdiocese with Regional Operational Programme funding, it reopened in 2023 as the Băile Casino Museum Centre.

Mofette & peat mud
- The mofette is a room where gaseous carbon dioxide accumulates. Dorna Turism owns a mofette cabin on Negrești street, built in 1988.
- Peat mud comes from the Poiana Stampei area.
- The spa park covers 50.3 ha, laid out with alleys following landscape architecture canons.
- The detailed chemical composition of the water is not published by the operator or the town hall.
The treatment base in 2026
- The Călimani treatment base was commissioned in 1978 and has 2,497 sqm of built area (7,621 sqm total floor area). It is run by DORNA TURISM SA, listed on the AeRO market of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
- In 2025 treatment brought 9.94% of operating revenue, and the company bought a laser therapy device and an ultrasound device to increase the therapeutic efficiency of the procedures.
- The main customer is the National Public Pension House, so CNPP treatment vouchers are accepted.
- Procedures run Monday to Friday, by appointment, after a medical consultation. There is no entry ticket.
- Private facilities also operate in the resort, among them Hotel Adristel (84 beds, its own treatment base, a wellness area with dry sauna, salt room and jacuzzi).

The Băile Casino Museum Centre, at 5 Republicii Street, is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11:00–18:00, and closed on Monday and Tuesday, per its official site checked on 1 August 2026. Its 2026 ticket prices are not published; the last figures found in the press, in 2023, were 10 lei per adult and 5 lei per child.

- Check with the operator when the 2026 CNPP series start before you make plans. In its 2025 annual report, filed with the Bucharest Stock Exchange on 27 March 2026, DORNA TURISM SA states there are uncertainties about the start date of the CNPP contract, caused by the delayed approval of the state social insurance budget, and that a public procurement procedure will delay the start of services by up to three months.
- For reimbursement you need a referral from your family doctor or a specialist, an activated health card and either proof of employment or a pension slip.
- The resort is open all year, but the treatment base follows a working-week rhythm.
- If you come only to relax, you can buy a fully private package, but a medical consultation on arrival is still recommended.
- The Casino Museum is closed on Monday and Tuesday, so plan that visit for the middle or the end of the week.
